Mate With Two Bishops

Checkmating with two bishops one of the most unstudied K+Pieces vs King checkmates by tournament player. While quite rare to come across this endgame, being up just two bishops is very possible. And not knowing how to mate with them can cost you the win, and even the tournament. Surprisingly, it's not that difficult to learn with these easy steps. With this method, you won't be able to mate in the fastest way possible by playing like a computer, but you will be shown simplistic methods & patterns to assure victory every game.

The Process

*Note: This is just the pattern. You will be taught and shown how to reach these steps later on in the lesson.

Here's a position. You have two bishops and of course, your king.

The first step is to get your bishops to the center. This will box the king in and prevent it from escaping and giving you time to prepare the mate.

How do you get the king to the end of the board? You must utilize your king to support the bishops. The bishops should roll the king slowly, restricting its possible moves. This will be displayer further in the lesson.

The next step is to bring your king into play. Simply bring your king forward to support the bishops.

Next, you need to restrict the king to its smallest breathing space, push your bishops forward one more time.

Now that your opponent's king is trapped on the back rank (or file). Simply use your king to keep him there and use the bishops to push him to the corner.

Keep using your bishops to push the opposing king to the corner

With the king is on the magic square, f3, just let the bishops do the rest!
